Big Talk
A cross between Ann Landers and National Public Radio's Car Talk. Two
kids read a letter from listeners about silly things parents do, then
offer advice and countermeasures bordering on the outrageous.
Turning Points
This segment puts the "story" back in history as our time traveling
reporter goes back to speak with important - not not so famous -
historical figures. Over cookies and milk, people like Rosa Parks,
Thomas Jefferson, Albert Einstein and Emily Dickinson explain
decisions that altered the course of the world.
Boom Radio
Imagine a boy lying on his bed, feet propped up against the wall,
talking into a wadded up sock as if it's a microphone. It's our
BOOMERANG! DJ broadcasting heartfelt commentary about some childhood
injustice.
Boomerang! Census
We don't care what kind of microwave
oven the readers have, we want to know important stuff, like: what do
they keep in the top drawer of the dresser? Kids send in their phone
numbers where we can reach them on Saturday morning with the issue's
census question.

Natural Wonder
Nickie is one of those kids that would just as soon never come inside.
Each issue she lets listeners in on her wondrous, fanciful musings
about some natural phenomenon: cicadas, raindrops, mosquitoes...
Widget and Whack
This comical brother act lends its natural curiosity to tearing apart,
dissecting and explaining the mechanics of everyday household items
such as toilets and vacuum cleaners. |

Money
Listeners learn about economics against the backdrop of Freddie
Baxter's Rhubarb and Banana sandwich business. We learn about stock
when Harold puts in $20 for supplies ... banking when Billy borrows
the $8 from Freddie that Harold gave him for safekeeping ...
depreciation when Kate returns a borrowed baseball glove that's been
left out in the rain.
Weird Words
Kids learn "vital" vocabulary words in this hilarious game show
segment. I bet you didn't know that "sycomancy" is fortunetelling
through the use of ripe figs...
Mystery
A humorous mystery featuring Tucker Jones, ace kid detective. Complete
with genre music and realistic sound effects, kids love trying to
figure out how Tucker solves the case.
American Journey
Toby and her Grandfather are traveling across America. Each issue Toby
checks in with a pensive, diary-like personal narrative about the
sights and sounds of a different locale.
Schmave's Elevator
Dave Schmave is the elevator operator in the BOOMERANG! building. In a
fit of storytelling magic he manages to get in a 10-13 minute story
about the "good 'ol days," as we parents now refer to the 50s and
early 60s.
Jokes
No one actually read Boy's Life back in the 50s and 60s...they went
straight to the joke page on the back. In the 90s kids have a chance
to hear some of the funniest -- and stupidest -- jokes delivered with
panache by our own house comedians.
